marebito
‘Marebito’ was a term created by the Japanese folklorist ‘Shinobu Orikuchi’. He referred to a spiritual or deity-like being who visits from the afterworld at a specified time bringing spiritual gifts. A similar way as to which our art is temporary brought into and inhabits Nakanojo for the biennale. ‘Marebito’ consists of five artists at the vacant inn Nakaya.
1F : Takafumi Suzuki / a room installation composed by collected articles from Nakanojo.
Basement : Hiromichi Ichikawa / solid works in a room and the storage out of the door.
Masaaki Nose / a room installation of rice straw bunches, copper board works in another room.
2F : Keiko Kuboki / paintings founded on Japanese technique. Kouji Matsuzawa / paintings on a pair of large fold screens.

There are scenes that don't change,
Historical Onsen towns, mountain villages with a silk industry,
Wooden school buildings stuck in time.
Everywhere becomes the stage for our journey with art.
